Schöngrabern was a brief rearguard battle in Lower Austria in 1805. Russian general Kutuzov planned on linking with General Buxhoeveden's army near Austerlitz. Prince Bagration was ordered to commit a rearguard action against the oncoming French to buy him time to link up. Bagration made contact with Marshal Murat by the ridge overlooking Schöngrabern, withholding the French only for a time.
